Birth Doula Profile - Luann Richardson

Luann Richardson

Birth has always been a fascinating process for me. When a childbirth educator suggested that I become a doula, I knew it was a path that I was meant to take. I have been a doula since 2001 and I am certified through DONA (Doulas of North America). I have had the honor of working with many women in welcoming their babies into the world. I gained a vast amount of my experience when I was a doula with the PACE and LABOR studies which utilized doulas at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. With each birth, I continue to gain knowledge. I am a Hypnobirthing support doula, have studied the Lamaze method of childbirth and have experience with VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean).

I am the mother of three great children. Joey is 22 and has not always had an easy path in life, but has always made me proud. Andrea is a multi-talented 19 year-old with wisdom way beyond her years. She is my rock. Victoria is 16 and has her mother's fascination with birth. At her young age, she knows that she wants to be a NICU nurse. Rounding out my family is my wonderful husband, Ted. From the moment I thought of becoming a doula, he has done nothing but support and encourage me.

Birth is a life changing event. As a doula, I am there to provide physical and emotional support to the mother and her partner. I will always honor her choices and decisions as to how she wants to birth. I believe that a birth should be everything that a mother wants it to be. It is always a privilege to be part of this wonderful experience.
